The Lemon Orchard

After learning different facts about a book review, we were supposed to write our own book review of The Lemon Orchard, written by Alex La Guma. Here is mine...

The Lemon Orchard is a short story written by Alex La Guma, a South African novelist who was part of the colored people´s organization.

The story is about two different races, and how they treat each other. During the whole story the main character (black man) is mistreated and threatened by the white men, who want to take him to The Lemon Orchard, were something is going to happen.

The plot is full of both suspense and racism. The black man is taken from his house while he is sleeping. His only crime is to have a different opinion with the church minister, he is just an innocent man. The white men treat the innocent man badly. They don´t give him warm clothes, although he is shivering. Besides, they point at him with a gun several times.

To sum up, the story is about two different races. It teaches us, readers, how it felt being from a different race at that time. I would definetely recommend reading this reflecting story.
